I recently had a conversation with someone about what TV shows I follow, and I complained about Doctor Who being on a break, and there only being 2 more episodes of this series of Downton Abbey left (why, oh why do they only have 8 episodes a season??). The person I was talking to jokingly said "What will you do with your life?", but it's true! Having spent weeks waiting for the next episode of a favourite TV show, it feels really empty when it ends or goes on a break for several months, and I often wonder what on earth I'm going to do with myself. Obviously, this doesn't last for very long, but it always happens.
Well, at least I still have the Big Bang Theory and Grey's Anatomy to look forward to - although, I can't see what on earth those Americans are up to, taking a break every third week. There's nothing more annoying than waking up in the morning, looking forward to a brand-new episode of a favourite show (because, you know, I only get them the morning after... shhh...) only to find that, yet again, there's an inexplicable break in the show.
But Downton ending is really going to make my Monday mornings more difficult, since that's the only reason I've managed to get up at 7 or 8am on Mondays...
1st World Problems much?

Finnish Culture Shock #3
Finnish Problems, round 1.
These are all true - not for everyone, and not even necessarily for me, but generally speaking they are all true. Out of these five, I'd say the one that applies to me the most is the last one.
So, as you can see, us Finns are quite awkward in social situations, and very easily embarrassed.
More Finnish problems can be found here or here.

Now what?
I've been working my arse off this spring. Well, sort of - depends what you compare it to, of course, but because everything's relative, and I only compare it to how much I usually work, I get to state that this spring, I've been working my arse off. I'll be getting nearly as many credits for this spring as I usually get in a year (see, those months in Edinburgh didn't slow my studies down, honest!), and I've started, and completed my bachelor's thesis. Which, to be honest, and considering my track record, I wasn't sure I'd manage, at least not by the deadline. (One of the perks (or maybe the perk?) of living with your parents for a while - you don't have to rely only on your conscience to nag you into getting stuff done.)
The point of this post isn't to show you all how very good and efficient I've been (well, maybe just a little bit). It's to say: today, now that I've finished my last class, and my last assignment, and the only exam I had to do, what am I supposed to do with my time? I still live with my parents (i.e. in BFN) for another month, so not much to do here. It's not like I was always working up till now either, but even when I was just hanging out, doing nothing, I always had all the work that had to be done at the back of my mind. I had a few nights when I didn't really need to do any work, but at some point I still ended up going back to my thesis, just because I had nothing better to do, or because I felt some weird urge to work on it. Scary shit.
So here I am, done with all the stuff that needed to be done for uni this term (except some final little fiddling with my thesis), with absolutely nothing to do. First world problem?
Oh, I'm not too worried. It's just the usual culture shock when moving from term into summer, but I'll manage. A few days from now I'll look back at this post, and laugh at it in contempt. Except that I won't, because in a few days time, I'll be back in the burgh. Hell yeah!

I-landsproblem
In Swedish we've got the expression i-landsproblem. I-land means 'developed country', and i-landsproblem is a kind of small problem or irritation in your every-day life which you find annoying, but which, when you put things into perspective, really isn't much of a problem at all (yes, a First World problem, but I happen to like the Swedish term for it!)
We've all experienced this. You're trying to put up a post-it note, and it just won't stick. How irritating. You're eating take away food, and the plastic cutlery breaks too easily. Very irritating. You've got too many remotes, so that you never know which one to use to change the channel. Your intenet connection is too slow. The cash machine won't give you notes that are small enough (e.g. 10€ notes). The Facebook chat isn't working properly. The shop's run out of the specific kind of crisps/sweets/other that you like. How very, very irritating!
Life is just hard, isn't it? ;)
What kind of i-landsproblem have you experienced recently?
